Soccer City

  • Shizuoka City, home to the J-League team "Shimizu S-Pulse", is nationally known as the "soccer city" as it has many high schools with strong soccer teams.
    Shizuoka City is known as a soccer kingdom. A long time ago, and it is said that by the Taisho period soccer had already spread in Shizuoka City. In the 1960s, Shizuoka city was one of the first countries in Japan to establish a system to train and coach elementary school students and others. Shizuoka City's high schools have achieved excellent results in high school soccer tournaments and have become known nationwide as the soccer kingdom.
    The manga "Captain Tsubasa", which is said to have influenced world-famous soccer players, was created with reference to Shizuoka City, where soccer was popular at the time.
    When the J. League was launched, the "Shimizu S-Pulse" was born as the only citizen football team in Japan that did not have any specific supporting companies. Since then, "Shimizu S-Pulse" has produced many Japanese national teams members and star players.

The city where you can see Mt. Fuji

  • From Shizuoka City, you can see Mt. Fuji from various places in the city.
    Famous viewing spots include "Nihondaira", "Satta Pass" and "Miho no Matsubara".
    Nihondaira" is a national place of scenic beauty. With a view of Suruga Bay below and a panoramic view of Mt. Fuji, it once won first place in the Top 100 Tourist Sites of Japan Competition.
    The scenery of Suruga Bay and Mt. Fuji seen from the "Satta Mountain pass" is also depicted in the Ukiyoe "The 53 Stations of the Tokaido" by Utagawa Hiroshige.
    In particular, the scenery seen from the "Miho no Matsubara" was registered as a Mt. Fuji World Heritage Site in 2013, and is visited by many tourists from Japan and abroad.

  • Shizuoka Matsuri (Shizuoka Festival)
    Shizuoka City festival is held in early April every year.The Ogosho Hanami Parade is a gorgeous Hanami parade in which celebrities dressed up as Ieyasu and walk from Sunpu-jo Castle in downtown Shizuoka. Official Webside

  • Abekawa Fireworks Festival
    Abekawa Fireworks FestivalA fireworks display is held at the bank of the Abe-gawa River at the end of July every year. 15,000 fireworks, including shakudama, exhibition fireworks, and large starmine, decorate the night sky. This is a summer tradition in Shizuoka city. Official Webside
  • Shimizu Tanabata Festival
    The traditional festival in which the grand Tanabata decorations decorate the Shimizu shopping district.The large Kusudama ornament, flower ornament, Chibi Maruko-chan, Shimizu S-Pulse, and so on, gimmick ornament based on things related to Shimizu are the highlights. Official Webside
  • Shimizu Minato Festival
    It is held in Shimizu every year in early August. The "Minato Kappore So Odori" performed by a total of 20,000 citizens is very powerful. "Minato Kappore So Odori" will be performed for two days. On the last day, 10,000 fireworks are set off in an hour.Official Webside
  • Yui Sakura Shrimp Festival
    It is held every year on May 3 at the Yui Fishing Port.There are many events such as the spot sale of freshly caught Sakura shrimps and Whitebait, experience boarding a Sakura shrimp fishing boat, and so on.
